The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties is pleased to announce the following Students of the month for March 2012: Bailey Echols (Nathanael Greene Academy), Grady Duthler (Greene County High School), Larry Lacksen (Gatewood School) and Saliynah Drumgoogle (Putnam County High School). The students were all recognized at a recent Rotary Club meeting. Rotarian Alex Falanga presented each student with a framed certificate. In addition, Spotlight Theatres provided movie tickets for each student and will display their picture on their screens during all movie showings this month.
Bailey Echols is a student at Nathanael Greene Academy. She was also the Rotary Student-of-the-Month in February 2011, is on the Honor Roll, and has achieved the Scholastic Achievement Award in 2008-2011. She is the secretary of her class, secretary of the Interact Club, and FCA leader. Bailey enjoys softball, basketball, tennis and track. Her hobbies are show choir, participating in the spring musical, and softball. She plans to attend Piedmont College and major in Biology. Echols chose Hillary Hensley as her Teacher of the Month. Hensley stated that “Bailey knows what is expected of her and she goes above and beyond. She is a wonderful senior, musician, leader and is a role model to her peers.”
Grady Duthler attends Greene County High School. He is a member of the Academic Bowl team, the Beta Club, and CDE (Career Development Events with FFA), and has earned highest GPA in core subject area classes. He is a FFA Student Advisor and competition team member as well as co-president of the UGA Regional Junior Leadership Academy. Grady plays football, golf, and is the captain of the soccer team. With his family, he crossed the country from California and when they came to Greensboro, they decided this would be their home. In addition, he is a general production assistant for OPAS at Festival Hall and the Plaza Arts Center. He plans to attend UGA and earn a double major in wildlife and fisheries as well as forestry. Afterwards, he plans to pursue a doctorate in some aspect of wildlife management. He chose Constance Reid as his Teacher of the Month. Reid praised Grady’s inquisitive nature. She further commented, “Grady has a fun, infectious personality and is wide open to the world and all information that you present to him.”
Larry Lacksen attends Gatewood Schools. He has earned Highest Honors in 2010 and 2011, Honors in 2009, and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is the class treasurer (2009-2012), and member of SGA, Anchor Club, FCA, and attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership World Leadership Congress in 2010. Larry participates in cross country (All State-2010, All Region-2010, 2011), basketball (All Region-2011, 2012), track and soccer. He has visited 40 of the 50 United States as well as Canada and New Zealand. He is a volunteer at the Hancock County Helping Hands Food Bank, Sunday School teacher, and bread run organizer between Publix and Hancock County. He plans to attend Georgia Tech and major in business. He chose Michelle Tyson as his teacher of the month. Tyson stated, “Larry is a wonderful student and excels at academics as well as athletics.”
Saliynah Drumgoogle attends Putnam County High School. She maintains a 3.8 GPA, is an honor student, and has taken almost all of the AP classes that are available. She is the president of the Thespian Troupe, FBLA reporter, captain of the soccer team, class senator, State Student Advisory Council, and has had the lead role in musicals. She enjoys soccer and cheerleading. Saliynah volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, River’s Alive, food distributions, and parties for foster kids. She plans to attend Georgia State University and major in chemistry and become an anesthesiologist. She chose Jennifer Morris as her teacher of the Month. Morris commented, “Saliynah is a talented, dedicated, hard-working student. She was welcoming to me from my first day here at
