Rotary Club President Laura Dent had the recent honor of inducting Mike McCabe and Scott Roberts into the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties.

In handling this induction, Laura asked Mike and Scott to complete the following declaration: “In accepting obligations, I pledge myself to render the most willing and efficient service of which I am capable and above all will ensure 'Service Above Self' is always at the forefront of my actions.”

Membership in the Rotary Club is not a new experience for Roberts as he was a previous member of the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties from 2000 -2006, but had taken a sabbatical due to family responsibilities. He is a graduate of University of Georgia with a business degree in marketing, and from the Medical College of Georgia with a degree in dentistry. He moved his practice eight years ago to the lake area and is located in the Lake Oconee Village Center (behind Publix). His practice is focused on general dentistry of folks between the age of 3 to 93, and cosmetic dentistry. He is married to Carla, and they are the proud parents of a 2-year old son, Walker, and in three weeks they will add a daughter to their family. In his spare time he enjoys golfing, basketball and “most any form of outdoor living.”

In acknowledgment of his induction to the Rotary Club, Roberts stated: “I was a member of the Rotary in past years and have been able to watch the community grow and change. I am happy to return to the Rotary family and excited about becoming more involved in the community and Rotary initiatives.”

Mike McCabe was sponsored by Rotarian, Bob Massey. He is a graduate of Georgia College and State University, with a bachelors degree in management. McCabe has utilized his management degree with Winn-Dixie, and the last nine years in financial services — first with Amerprise and currently with Edward Jones in Greensboro.

McCabe and his family have been in the Milledgeville area for more than 30 years. He and his wife, Christy, have been married for 10 years, and are the proud parents of two sons and one daughter (ages 7, 5 and 1.). Christy has a dance studio in Milledgeville and the lake area. In their spare time, McCabe and his family enjoy travel and going to the movies.

In joining the Rotary, McCabe stated: “I met many Rotarians at a Leadership meeting in Greensboro and enjoyed the people and their purpose. I wanted to be part of an organization that had good people, a good message and who were involved.”

Roberts and McCabe were given a standing ovation as acknowledgment of their becoming Rotarians.
