Lake Conditions – The lake has some stain throughout but clearing is occurring.
Lake Water Temperature – 59-64 degrees
Largemouth Bass – GOOD – Fish have moved into coves and creeks as the fish are staging for the upcoming spawn (some have actually begun to spawn) and can be found from about halfway to the back of main lake and creek coves. They are shallow around wood structures like seawalls, docks and brushpiles in those locations. Best lures have been spinnerbaits, jigs, soft plastics(lizards, Trick worms) and small crankbaits (Shad Rap/square bill) around any wood structure.
Crappie – GOOD –The crappie bite is very good on jigs that are pushed or pulled. Adding a minnow is productive right now and good catches are being made by anglers shooting jigs under lake docks. The bite is good as the fish continue spawning. The spawn will be spread throughout the month of April due to the inclement weather in March. Some fish did spawned on the last full moon but many will spawn on the full moon in late April.
Hybrid/Striped/White Bass – FAIR/GOOD – The fish have moved up the rivers and in front of the Wallace Dam in a failed attempt to spawn. Good fish are at the dam with live bait being the best choice for catching those fish.
Catfish – GOOD – Some big catfish have moved into the larger main lake coves. The catfish spawn will likely be delayed somewhat this year but look for spawning to begin in late April at about the same time the annual shad spawn occurs. Smaller catfish can be caught on worms and other catfish bait but the larger catfish will fall best for live bait, cut bait or bream heads.
